https://jurnal.fkip.unismuh.ac.id/index.php/ICOLT/article/view/1614

This research aims to find out how bridging cultures in the classroom: how culturally responsive teaching elevates speaking skill. In this study, the researchers employed a case study as the research approach, accordingly the researchers had to categorize the collected data into different themes or group them into themes after recognizing them. The data used in this paper was collected through interviews that were conducted with 5 students from different cultural backgrounds in learning speaking, while the lecturer adopted culturally responsive teaching. Then the researchers found 4 important aspects in this research, namely: 1. Increased Participation and Motivation 2. Connection with the Material 3. Increased Self-Confidence 4. Perceptions about Learning Speaking. This approach also offers the students more opportunities to present their cultural experiences and thus, the levels of concern and passion among the participants will rise. Students feel a form of belonging therefore the content discussed in class is easy to grasp when the culture is taken into consideration. The colleges also gain the recognition and appreciation of their culture to further enhance student confidence in speaking in class. Moreover, this approach shifts the attitude of students regarding speaking skill acquisition and makes them more inclined to do so by responding to cultural practice. Based on the results of the study, it is evident that the enhancement of culturally sensitive teaching practices not only helps in enhancing the student’s speaking ability but also delivers a more meaningful learning process through appreciating the culture in which learning is drawn. Thus, culturally responsive teaching decreases class and educational establishment students’ stress due to cultural rejection and increases students’ comfort. It not only fosters academic advancements, but it also helps to enhance their cultural background. Therefore, learning comes along with privilege.
ReskyaniAndi AdisaturrahimiMustaqimah

The significance of intercultural communication is growing in tandem with the advancement of globalization. Acquiring intercultural communication skills is crucial in order to prevent misunderstanding. Communication is the utilization of human language to transmit a message. Regarding communication, human language is commonly categorized into two distinct forms: verbal and nonverbal (Wahyuni, 2018). This paper aims to (1) investigate diverse types of facial expressions in Eastern Indonesia, and (2) comprehend the significance of facial expressions among the people of Eastern Indonesia. This is a descriptive- qualitative research. There were two participants were involved in this study. Observation and interviews were used to gain the data. To analyze the data of observation and interviews, the researchers apply steps recommended by Miles & Huberman (2014). The results showed that facial expressions are not the same as the meanings of different people even with the same ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Furthermore, the results of observations and interviews conducted with the two participants revealed that when the eastern Indonesians, the northern Maluku people began to speak slowly and smiling a little, they became upset and could produce great chaos, so people need to recognize it as a context of intercultural communication.
Suratman DahlanSami’an WulandariAmaliah Ramdani

https://jurnal.fkip.unismuh.ac.id/index.php/ICOLT/article/view/1642

This research investigates the relationship between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability among students at SMKN 15 Samarinda. Vocabulary plays a crucial role in English language learning, impacting speaking fluency and communication skills. The study adopts a quantitative approach with a correlational design, using the Vocabulary Levels Test (VLT) and a Speaking Test adapted from IELTS to measure these variables. Data from 29 students were analyzed using Pearson Product-moment Correlation in IBM SPSS Statistics 27. The findings reveal a significance value of 0.511, indicating no statistically significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking fluency. This challenges the assumption that a larger vocabulary directly enhances speaking skills, suggesting the presence of other influential factors. The study contributes theoretically by providing insights into language learning dynamics and practically by guiding educators on effective teaching strategies. Further research could explore additional variables impacting speaking proficiency beyond vocabulary mastery.
Muhammad Aulia FedryanKhusnul KhatimahZulfa Nadia

https://jurnal.fkip.unismuh.ac.id/index.php/ICOLT/article/view/1645

This research aims to test the effectiveness of local wisdom-based teaching modules in instilling character values in fourth grade students in elementary schools, with a focus on the Pancasila student profile in the Merdeka Curriculum. The research was carried out using controlled experimental methods in ten schools, where two study groups (experimental and control classes) were given different treatments. The experimental class uses local wisdom-based teaching modules, while the control class does not. Data was obtained through a character values questionnaire which includes several dimensions, such as Faith and Devotion to God Almighty and Noble Character, Global Diversity, Mutual Cooperation, Critical Reasoning, and Independence. The results of data analysis show that students' character scores on these dimensions tend to be higher in the experimental class than in the control class. Statistical analysis using the Paired Samples T-Test showed that there was a significant difference between the character scores of students in the experimental class and the control class in each dimension tested (sig. 0.000 < 0.05). This indicates that local wisdom-based teaching modules are effective in increasing student character values in the Pancasila student profile, such as faith, global diversity, mutual cooperation, critical reasoning and independence.
