Berdasarkan observasi dan wawancara peneliti menemukan masalah pada siswa saat meyampaikan pendapat, siswa ragu-ragu dalam menjawab pertanyaan, lama berpikir dan kurangnya kosakata. Terdapat beberapa metode yang dilakukan dalam pembelajaran salah satunya metode diskusi kelompok. Oleh karena itu, peneliti ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas metode diskusi kelompok dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa melalui pembelajaran PPKn di SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep dengan subjek penelitian kelas XI al-khawarizmi. Jenis penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) untuk mengukur dampak metode diskusi kelompok dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Hasil penelitian pada siklus 1 dan siklus 2 Rata-rata nilai siswa pada siklus 1 adalah 80,37, nilai tertinggi 96, nilai terendah 60, dan persentase ketuntasan belajar adalah 71%. Artinya pada siklus pertama belajar siswa tidak mencukupi ketuntasan belajar minimum 75%. Dilanjutkan lagi dengan siklus kedua, rata-rata nilai siswa yaitu 89,42. perolehan nilai tertinggi 100, nilai terendah 70. Dengan persentase nilai ketuntasan belajar 89% dari nilai ketuntasan belajar minimum 75%. Artinya pada siklus kedua, peneliti menemukan kemampuan berpikir kritis meningkat. Dengan demikian peneliti menyarankan kepada guru menggunakan metode diskusi agar siswa lebih aktif dalam pembelajaran PPKn di kelas.</p>

<p><strong><em>Abstract </em></strong></p>
<p><em>The ability to think critically is a new foundation in learning in the modern era, which is an important ability for a person as capital in the world of education and life in society. Based on observations and interviews, researchers found problems with students when expressing opinions, students hesitated in answering questions, thought long and lacked vocabulary. There are several methods used in learning, one of which is the group discussion method. Therefore, this researcher aims to determine the effectiveness of the group discussion method in improving students’ critical thinking skills through Civics learning at SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep with research subjects in class XI al-Khwarizmi. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) to measure the impact of the group discussion method in improving students’ critical thinking skills. The results of the research in cycle 1 and cycle 2. The average student score in cycle 1 was 80.37, the highest score was 96, the lowest score was 60, and the percentage of learning completeness was 71%. This means that in the first cycle of student learning, the minimum learning mastery of 75% is not sufficient. Followed again with the second cycle, the average student score is 89.42. obtaining the highest score of 100, the lowest score of 70. With a percentage of 89% mastery learning value of the minimum 75% mastery learning score. This means that in the second cycle, researchers found that critical thinking skills increased. Thus the researchers suggested to the teacher to use the discussion method so that students were more active in learning Civics in class.</em></p>
