The Correlation Between Students’ Visual Learning Style Preference and Vocabulary Mastery at SMP NEGERI 3 Sungguminasa

The objective of this research is to find out the correlation between students' visual learning style preference and vocabulary mastery at SMP Negeri 3 Sungguminasa. The design of this research is descriptive quantitative research. This research has two variables, students' visual learning style preference as an independent variable and students’ vocabulary mastery as a dependent variable. The population of this research is seventh-grade students. The researcher used random sampling to take the samples, which consist of 33 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used a questionnaire and test. The questionnaire used to measure students’ visual learning style preference, which consists of 15 statements. Then, the test is used to know students’ vocabulary mastery which consists of 20 questions. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Pearson analyzed Product Moment Correlation formula. The data analyzed by using SPSS 23 program for Windows. The result of this research shows that there was a medium correlation between students’ visual learning style preference and vocabulary mastery of VII grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Sungguminasa because the value of r_xy = 0.468 on the correlation scale table (0.40-0.599) means in medium correlation level. As the findings showed, rxy > rtable = 0.468 >0.40 So, it can be concluded that there was a significant correlation between students’ visual learning style and vocabulary mastery at SMP Negerei 3 Sungguminasa

English Teachers' Challenges in Designing English lesson Plans for 2022 Prototype Curriculum

The purpose of this research aimed to find out the challenges in designing lesson plan faced by English Teacher. This research used a qualitative descriptive method, the subject of this research were two English teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Takalar who taugh at seven grade for 2022 prototype curriculum. The result of this research showed that there were five challenges faced by English teachers, students' condition, learning method, learning scenario, learning media and assessment. 1) student condition 2) Learning 3) Learning scenario : the teachers sometimes easily forget some steps in leaning activities because age. 4) Learning media 5) Assesment.

The Use of Task-Based Language Teaching in Improving Students' Writing Skills at X Grade in SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Bontoala

This study aimed to find out whether or not Task-Based Language Teaching method improve the writing skills of class X AP students at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Bontoala in terms of grammar and mechanics. The research method used was quantitative with a pre-experimental design. The population in this study were students of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Bontoala. The number of samples used was 20 students and the sample class were selected using a purposive sampling technique.Based on the results, the pre-test score of students' writing skills in terms of grammar was 65.8 and the post-test score was 81.4. While the Pre-test score of students' skills in terms of mechanics was 64.0 and post-test is 83.0. After analyzed the results of the pre-test and post-test data, the researcher found that in writing skills, p-value (0.000) less than α (0.05), this indicates that the null hypothesis is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted.The researcher concluded that Task-Based Language Teaching through descriptive text at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Bontoala improved students' writing skills. There is a significant difference in students' writing skills in terms of grammar and mechanics with the use of Task-Based Language Teaching methods.

Investigating English Learners’ Strategies to Promote Autonomy In Language Learning at Bilingual Socio-Politic Class Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar

The aimed of this research was to find out the English learners strategies in language learning. The method used in this research was qualitative method. This research used observation and semi-structured interviews as instruments in collecting data. The subjects in this study were 3rd semester students in the bilingual class of the Department of State Administration. The research subjects consisted of 8 students. This study used a purposive sampling technique. The results of this study indicated that students used all types of strategies; memory strategies, cognitive strategies, compensation strategies, metacognitive strategies, affective strategies, and social strategies in language learning. The students used these strategies easy, convenient, practical, and effective for independent learning in language learning.

The Effectiveness of Circumlocution Strategy towards the Students’ Speaking Skills at SMA-IT Al-Biruni Makassar

This research’s aim is to find out whether the circumlocution strategy effectively improves the students’ speaking skills at SMA-IT Al-Biruni Makassar. This research used a pre-experimental method which consisted the eleventh-grade students of SMA-IT Al-Biruni Makassar as the subjects. The research instruments for data collection used in this research are the pre-test and post-test to determine students' skills in terms of fluency before and after treatment. The result of this research showed that the t-test value was higher than t-table value. The mean score of the post-test is higher than the mean score of the pre-test. It means that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected while the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. In other words, there is significant difference between the result of the pre-test and post-test in teaching speaking skill in fluency by using circumlocution strategy. Based on the findings, the researcher concluded that the circumlocution strategy effectively improved students' speaking skills in terms of fluency in the eleventh grade at SMA-IT Al-Biruni Makassar.

An Analysis of English Teacher in Learning Assessment at SMP Negeri 3 Mare

This study aims to analyze the types of assessments used by teacher in teaching English to grade nine at SMP Negeri 3 Mare Kab Bone and to determine the use of these assessments by teacher. This study used a qualitative method. The subjects of this study were English teacher at SMP Negeri 3 Mare. In analyzing the data, the researcher collected data from observation, interview, and gave questionnaire to teacher, and identified the types of assessment used by teacher in teaching English and how to use these assessments in teaching English. The results show that teacher use authentic assessment in teaching English. There are three types of assessment in teaching. These assessments are skills assessment, portfolio assessment, and project assessment and for project assessment the teacher does not use them in teaching activities because it takes longer time, so the teacher only gives assignments to students in the form of project assignments to be completed at home as project assignments. for the final exam The researcher concluded that the types of assessment used by the teacher in teaching English were skills assessment and project assessment on authentic assessment in teaching English at SMP Negeri 3 Mare.

The data analysis technique used is using a simple web calculator, to measure concrete sentences, examples per page, word frequency, and active sentences of a journal article that can be found using a calculator. And using the website readability calculator calculates the number of sentences, words, syllables, and characters in your sample. This study uses the Flashch equation convenience formula to measure the readability of journal article texts.

The Effectiveness of the hybrid problem-based learning approach in training of speaking English at SMAN 14 Makassar

This study aims to see the effectiveness of the hybrid problem-based learning approach in training of speaking English at SMAN 14 Makassar. The researcher used quantitative research with a pre-experimental where the data gained from speaking test and data was collected through pre-test, treatment and post-test. The population of the research was the member of OSIS SMAN 14 Makassar. The total of population were 28 students.The result showed that the improvement of students’ accuracy and fluency from 28 students. The mean score of accuracy in post-test showed (75,5) that is higher than pre-test (54,3), with percentage of improvement (39%). Besides, most of students got very good score (71-85). Furthermore, the t-test value (2.0) that is greater than t-table value (2.052). It was concluded that there was significant improvement in accuracy by implementing the hybrid problem-based learning. Then, the mean score of fluency in post-test showed (64,4) that is higher than pre-test (46,1), with percentage of improvement (39%). Besides, most of students got good score (56-70). While, the t-test analysis of fluency showed (1.8) that is greater than t-table (2.052). It was concluded that there was significant improvement in fluency by implementing the hybrid problem-based learning.
Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the hybrid problem-based learning was effective to improve the students speaking skills approach in training of speaking English at SMAN 14 Makassar.

An Analysis of EFL Students' Communication Strategies in Classroom Context

^{This study aims to find out the types of communication strategies used by EFL students when learning English in the 12th grade English Cross Interest class at SMAN 5 Bantaeng. This study used descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation and interviews conducted with 4 students. Data came from three sources: namely audio recordings of naturally occurring classroom interactions; interviews with students and observation notes taken in the classroom. Data from the interaction transcripts were examined using Dorney & Scott's (1997) taxonomy of communication strategies.}^{The results of this study show that there are five types of communication strategies that most often appear when students communicate with their interlocutors as well as towards their teachers during learning activities, namely; Message Abandonment, Non-Linguistic Means, Filler, Appeal For Help and Asking For Clarification. The students used L1 because the students found it difficult to understand L2. This is due to the fact that students lack knowledge of English. Students experience these types of communication strategies due to thinking time, anxiety, lack of focus, nervousness, doubt, lack of knowledge, lack of vocabulary, grammatical errors and self-confidence.}

An Analysis Of Teacher Illocutionary Speech Acts In Teaching English At SMA 8 Pangkep

The purpose of this study is to identify the kinds of illocutionary utterances the teacher employs during instruction. This study's design is a qualitative one that use the descriptive approach. The dialogues that the teacher conducted while teaching and learning were the source of the research data. The research instrument was observation and recording, following which the researcher did a transcription and the researcher himself collected, processed and presented the data acquired in this study. The results demonstrate that the teacher engages in four different sorts of illocutionary acts: directive, representational, expressive, and commissive. The teacher employs 68 instances of this illocutionary behavior type. Directive was employed 32 times (47.05%), representational 16 times (23.52%), expressive 13 times (19.11), and commissive 3 times (4.41%) out of the 68 utterances. During the teaching and learning process, teachers often carry out directives. Because the use of directives in the teaching and learning process can be used to manage and control student behavior and activities. By using questioning, the teacher encourages more active participation from the class.
