The research used quantitative descriptive analysis. Two instruments were used in this study: the test and the questionnaire. In the academic year 2019/2020, the fifth semester of the English department at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar was the focus of this study. This analysis utilized a basic technique of random sampling. The sample of this research consisted of 37 from 220 students as the total population. The sample for this study consisted of a total population of 37 out of 220 students. Based on the interpretation essay test, the students showed that the sense score of 77.83 made it easier for them to translate the Indonesian test into English text. And the outcome of the questionnaire showed that the difficulty of interpreting narrative text was more prevalent than linguistic factors in the difficulty of non-linguistic factors. The researcher used text as the instrument to collect the data. This text aimed to examine the competence to translate the paragraphs of Indonesian into English text, which the text was descriptive text. The data was collected through translation test. The participants were the Fifth Semester students at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar and it consisted of 20 students as the sample with Purposive Sampling Technique. After analyzing and calculating the data, the researcher found that percentage of the mean score of the students’ competence in translating Indonesian sentences into English in descriptive text was 76 and the percentage was 76%. Therefore, the researcher concluded that students’ grammatical competence in Translating skill in descriptive text at Fifth Semester of English Education Department 2019 in Muhammadiyah University of Makassar is categorized as good category.</p> 2022-03-25T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Translation Studies ERROR ANALYSIS ON STUDENTS' TRANSLATION IN NARRATIVE TEXT AT SMAN 11 TAKALAR 2023-06-25T09:10:38+00:00 Sitti Salma Tahir Nunung Anugrawati Maharida <p>The purpose of this study was to find out (1) the dominant errors in translating narrative text from English to Indonesian made by students of SMAN 11 TAKALAR and (2) the causes of the dominant errors in translating narrative text from English to Indonesian made by SMAN 11 TAKALAR. This research is quantitative descriptive. The instruments of this research are tests and interviews. The result of this research indicated that there were 238 total errors that students made which were classified into four types of errors. Those were error of omission with 53 errors, error of addition with 63 errors, misformation with 74 errors and misordering with 48 errors.. Based on the result, the researcher concluded that third grade students IPA-1 at SMAN TAKALAR and the dominant errors that students, made were error misformation. The population used in this study were English teachers, while the sample was class VII with 18 students. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method, the instruments used in this study are translation tests and interviews. Knowledge test is useful to measure how big the students are in translating. Interviews were used to determine the approach used by the teacher in assessing students' translation results. The results of this study indicate that from the results of the student translation tests that have occurred, 2 people get a score of 50-55 with a percentage of 11%, and 7 people get a score of 60-65 with a percentage of 42%. , and 8 people got a score of 70-80 with a percentage of 47%. The findings after conducting interviews with English teachers, In the translation teacher approach, the teacher assesses the translation from the level of accuracy, grammatical order and according to the meaning of the source language. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method, and the instrument used is to provide a report text from Indonesian and then translate it into English in their own words. after that the researcher will analyze what translations are most often used by students when translating, seen from the results of the translation.
