Abstrak

The book of Sinking Van Der Wijck Ship written by Hamka, and deliberately chosen to serve as the object of study, because the novel is relatively much interested in describing the story of the spiritual journey and wanderings of the author thus revealed its philosophy of life. This paper can reveal the existence of Stilistika particularly in view of metaphor as the study of science, so that the existence of literature is not as writing without meaning, but rather a science that was born there and meaningful. The goal in this research is revealing metaphor in the love letters of Zainuddin and Hayati in the novel, which is expected to be useful in the development and improvement of knowledge of the humanities in general and sociology of literature in particular, because this would result in a metaphorical language describing the love letter with Zainuddin and Hayati in the novel of Sinking Van Der Wijck Ship. That will be followed in the teaching of literature appreciation. This research uses the qualitative type that has the characteristics of which have inductive properties that development concept based on existing data, following a flexible research design appropriate to the context.
