Abstract

This study investigates the intrinsic motivation of students in learning English at SMPN 2 Muara Jawa using a descriptive research design and a quantitative survey methodology. A standardized questionnaire was administered to selected respondents to gather data. The findings indicate that the majority of students exhibit intermediate levels of intrinsic motivation. Analysis of the mean scores from the questionnaires shows that students' motivation is influenced by various factors, including their desire to improve English language skills, ease of communication with English speakers, and enjoyment of learning the language. The study concludes that motivation plays a crucial role in the language learning process and highlights the need for strategies to enhance student motivation to achieve better learning outcomes.
