CORRELATION BETWEEN MOTIVATION AND SPEAKING SKILLAT THE FIFTH SEMESTER OF ENGLISH DEPARTMENT AT UNISMUH MAKASSAR

The purpose of this research was to find out the correlation between students’ motivation and speaking skill of the students at the fifth semester of English department in UNISMUH Makassar. The population of this research consist of 35 students. However, all population were going to be taken as the sample of the research. The method of this research was descriptive quantitative research to know the correlation between motivation and speaking skill. Collecting the data of the research, the researcher used two technique, they were questioner and also test. For motivation case, the researcher used questioner as the instrumentation of the research and speaking performance, the researcher used performance test. To analyze the data that has been collected, the researcher used SPSS application. After analyzing and calculating the data, it found that level significance is 0.872 which means that this result is greater than 0.05. Whereas for the results of the guideline the degree of relationship results in the value of 0.028 which in this value indicates that it does not reach the category 0.00 / 0.20 which means to conclude that there is no correlation.
